The Author
Recorder in the Classroom was written by Loreto Desmond, a musician, a primary school teacher and principal. She has a masters degree in music education and has taught curriculum music to trainee teachers in the main teacher education college in Ireland, St Patrick's College of Education, Dublin.
She has vast experience of mainstream class teaching and of teaching music to young and old alike - children, adults and the teachers who teach children! Her experinece includes teaching choirs, piano, recorder, flute, recorder ensembles.
As an educator, she understands that not many class teachers have the skill or confidence to teach an insturment to their class. Yet, playing the recorder is a relatively easy skill to aquire and you do not have to be a musician to teach your class to play and to have enormous fun. Recorder in the Classroom is laid out in a simple, easy to follow manner which demands very little from the teacher. If you can read, you can follow these books and teach your class.
The CDs that accompany each book will allow you to teach yourself how to play so that you can keep one step ahead of your pupils! They can be used to make sure your class is playing the right notes and in the right rhythm or you play the CD and let it do the teaching for you.
